Hemat Belanja di Walgreens

Walgreen adalah salah satu toko farmasi, selain CVS, yang ada di hampir setiap pojok jalan di Amerika.

Seperti CVS, Walgreens tidak hanya berjualan obat-obatan saja. Namun disana bisa ditemukan barang-barang lain seperti shampoo, sabun, popok bayi, dst.

Walaupun  toko lokal semacam ini lebih mahal daripada Walmart dan kawan-kawan, namun di toko ini selalu ada promosi tiap minggunya.  Jadi kalau rajin melihat-lihat promosi di flyer walgreens maupun dari www.walgreens.com, maka kita bisa memanfaatkan promosi mingguan toko ini dan mendapatkan barang-barang dengan murah atau gratis.

Macam2 promosi di walgreens:

1) Promosi mingguan. Bisa berbentuk: sale (penurunan harga) dan pemberian kupon toko. Seringkali walgreens menggabungkan sale dan kupon toko. Promosi ini bisa dilihat di website walgreen ataupun fliernya. Promosi ini berlangsung selama satu minggu dari hari Minggu ke hari Minggu berikutnya.

2) Promosi bulanan lewat:  Rebate Booklet atau sering disebut sebagai The Walgreens EasySaver catalog. Biasanya katalog kecil ini terletak di dekat kasir ataupun pintu masuk, bersama2 dengan flier mingguan. Kalau tidak ada katalog seperti ini di pintu masuk, coba tanyakan ke kasir. Mungkin mereka tidak tahu kalau katalog kecil yang terpajang di depan itu habis.

Katalog ini berisi promosi bulanan walgreen, Isinya:
- kupon bulanan yang hanya berlaku bulan itu
- informasi barang yang mendapatkan rebate bulanan dari walgreens. Di antara barang-barang ini, ada beberapa (biasanya 5 barang) yang gratis khusus untuk bulan tersebut.

Perlu diketahui, kadang2 ada juga  barang yang tidak gratis setelah rebate, tetapi bisa menjadi nyaris gratis atau gratis karena biasanya ada satu minggu di bulan tersebut dimana barang2 tersebut diturunkan harganya.

Cara mendapatkan rebate:
- Beli barang yang ada di daftar rebate.
- Bayar (out of pocket).
- Isi formulir rebate dari katalog.
- Kirim formulir beserta receipt asli dimana harga barang-barang yang dibeli tersebut dilingkari. Lihat petunjuk di easy saver katalog untuk detilnya.

Kemudian, kita bisa memilih apakah rebate itu diberikan kepada kita lewat check ataupun gift card. Kalau kita suka berbelanja di walgreens, lebih baik memilih rebate diberikan lewat gift card karena walgreens menambah 10% dari rebate yang kita inginkan. Jadi, misalnya kita minta rebate seharga $10, maka walgreens akan menambah $1 dollar kedalam gift card kita, sehingga totalnya kita mendapat $11 dollar.

Rebate pertama biasanya makan waktu 4-6 minggu. Setelah kartu dikirimkan, maka kalau kita menginginkan rebate lagi di bulan berikutnya, kita tinggal mencantumkan nomor kartu di formulir rebate.

Seperti CVS, setelah terbiasa berbelanja di walgreens, kita bisa terus menerus berbelanja memakai gift card kita dan menerima rebate di gift card tersebut. Dengan cara begini, maka kita tidak perlu mengeluarkan uang lagi.

2)Kombinasi kupon.

Walgreens menawarkan kupon mingguan (lihat flier) dan kupon bulanan (easy saver catalog). Jika ingin mendapat potongan harga, maka kupon dari walgreen tersebut bisa dikombinasikan dengan kupon dari pabrik (manufacturer’s coupon). Promosi terbagus kalau kita bisa mengkombinasikan: kupon walgreen + kupon barang/dari pabrik + store sale.

Perlu diingat bahwa biasanya satu kupon berlaku untuk satu barang saja, kecuali ditulis: $3/2 artinya: diskon $3  untuk dua barang. Kita bisa bertransaksi lebih dari satu kupon per transaksi, asalkan satu kupon digunakan untuk satu macam atau dua macam barang (tergantung detil kuponnya).

Kemudian, karena walgreens tidak mempunyai walgreens card yang bisa mencatat belanjaan kita, maka kita bisa melakukan transaksi berulang-ulang menggunakan kupon dari walgreens maupun manufacturer untuk promosi minggu itu asalkan kita punya cukup kupon. Sedang kalau di CVS, kita tidak bisa melakukannya karena CVS mencatat barang-barang apa yang sudah kita beli. Jadi kalau batasnya 1 barang tertentu (popok bayi misalnya) per kartu untuk suatu promosi,kita tidak bisa membeli lebih. Tetapi dengan walgreens, kita bisa membeli lebih asal kita punya cukup kupon.

Misalnya: ada promosi popok bayi dan kebetulan kita mempunyai 3 kupon walgreens (dengan tulisan hanya bisa membeli satu barang per kupon) + 3 kupon pabrik. Maka, kita bisa membeli tiga popok bayi di minggu promosi tersebut. Tetapi, kita tidak bisa membeli 3 popok bayi hanya dengan 1 kupon walgreen + 1 kupon pabrik.

3) Register Rewards

Register rewards (RR) adalah jenis promosi baru walgreen. Jadi setelah membeli barang, maka pada saat membayar di kasir, kita akan mendapat receipt dengan kupon sesuai promosi minggu itu.

Kita bisa mengkombinasi: kupon toko + kupon pabriik + RR. Dengan demikian, kita akan mendapatkan barang dengan murah.

Seringkali dikatakan dalam promosi bahwa kita hanya bisa membeli barang dengan RR sekali saja. Maksudnya, dalam satu kali transaksi, kita hanya bisa mendapatkan satu promosi tertentu saja. Misalnya: promosi Proctor and Gamble $25 mendapat $10 RR. Ini tidak berarti kita bisa membeli barang Proctor and Gamble seharga $50 dalam satu kali transaksi dan mendapat $20 RR. Untuk mendapat $20 RR dari promosi tersebut, kita harus mengulang transaksi pada waktu lain untuk mendapatkan hal tersebut. Jadi, kita mesti membeli 2 x $25 pada dua hari yang berbeda, sehingga kita bisa mendapat 2 x $10RR.

Limitasi lain: kita tidak bisa menggunakan RR yang diperoleh dari suatu promosi untuk membeli promosi yang sama berulang-ulang (istilahnya: roll over).

Misalnya: kalau kita sudah mendapat $10 RR dari promosi proctor and gamble diatas, maka kita tidak bisa menggunakan $10 RR yang terdahulu untuk membeli barang bikinan proctor and gamble lagi di minggu itu dan meminta $10 RR lagi. Misalnya: hari minggu membeli proctor and gamble, kemudian mendapat $10 dollar. Hari Senin, kita tidak bisa membeli lagi promosi proctor and gamble dengan menggunakan $10 RR dari transaksi hari minggu.

Namun keinginan roll over bisa disiasati dengan cara melakukan roll over untuk  dua jenis promosi yang berbeda, misalnya: hari minggu beli promosi proctor and gamble. Gunakan $10 RR dari proctor and gamble untuk membeli promosi Unilever di hari berikutnya (Senin). Dari promosi unilever mendapat $15 RR. Gunakan $15 RR dari unilever untuk membeli lagi proctor and gamble hari berikutnya (Selasa). Dst.

PENTING UNTUK DIPERHATIKAN:

1) Ada beberapa mesin kasir di wilayah terentu yang hanya bisa menerima kupon selama jumlah kupon = jumlah barang. Yang tergolong kupon adalah: kupon walgreens, kupon pabrik, dan kupon RR.

2) Kadang-kadang, di beberapa wilayah atau toko, kita harus memberikan kupon dengan cara yang benar. Memang level dari customer service Walgreens masih dibawah CVS, dalam artian kasir Walgreens suka tidak terlatih dengan baik. Bahkan pernah juga, salah satu kasir  diingatkan bahwa mereka salah men-scan sehingga harga yang kita bayar lebih murah daripada harga sesungguhnya. Namun, kasir tidak tahu bagaimana memperbaikinya.

Ini adalah cara pemberian kupon yang paling tidak beresiko ditolak oleh mesin kasir walgreen:

-Berikan register rewards dulu,
-lalu kupon pabrik,
-lalu kupon toko.

Selain itu, jangan berikan semua sekaligus di akhir transaksi. Usahakan diberikan beberapa jkali (in batches), terutama jika barang yang dibeli banyak. Kalau barang yang dibeli sedikit, tidak apa-apa diberikan sekaligus di akhir transaksi.

3) Jika suatu kupon tidak bisa diterima dan kita tidak ingin membayar barang tersebut tanpa kupon, langsung minta kasir untuk membatalkan transaksi khusus untuk barang tersebut (istilahnya: void the transaction). Kasir walgreens terlatih untuk membatalkan transaksi, namun tidak semuanya bisa memasukkan kode kupon secara manual (yaitu memasukkan dengan mengetik kode kupon, tidak dengan scanning bar code).

4) Jika barang yang dicari tidak ada, kita bisa minta ‘rain check’ pada kasir, sehingga kita bisa membeli lain hari (atau minggu lain) dengan harga promosi.

5) Penghitungan tax di walgreen: Walgreen menghitung tax berdasar total SEMUA barang sebelum kupon. CVS menghitung tax berdasar total yang kita bayar SESUDAH kupon. Mending CVS, kan ?

Mungkin sister heran ya kenapa kami meng-encourage sister utk belajar berbelanja di CVS. Bukankah neighborhood drug store itu lebih mahal dibanding grocery store macam Super Walmart, HEB, Aldi, dst ?

Ya memang, neighborhood drug store sedikit lebih mahal dibanding toko2 itu. Namun, yang sering tidak diketahui umum adalah di CVS ada banyak promosi dan sale yang pada akhirnya memungkinkan kita mendptkan barang2 dengan FREE, almost FREE atau sangat murah. Hal ini nyaris tidak kita dapatkan dengan berbelanja di grocery store.

Nah barang apa saja yang bisa didapat di CVS pharmacy ?

Tentu saja yang paling obvious adalah: over the counter medicine, spt tylenol dkk. Kemudian yang sering dipromosikan adalah: toiletries mencakup sikat dan pasta gigi, shampoo, moisturizer, dan soap. Kmd razor, toilet tissue, trash bag, bbrp snack, laundry detergent dan banyak lagi.

Memang kalau hal ini tidak rutin dilakukan, mk seakan2 saving ini tidak berarti. One dollar here, one dollar there. Tetapi bayangkan, kalau semua razor yang dipakai keluarga sister dapatnya gratis. Kan lumayan tuh savingnya. Lalu kalau trash bag, laundry detergent, toilet tissue dll semuanya didapat dengan harga sangat murah (even cheaper than the big grocery store brand) atau free kan lumayan sekali.

Bagaimana caranya ?
===================

Pertama2, cek apa di daerah sister ada CVS pharmacy. Kalau ada, segeralah apply CVS card yg mrpk loyalty card; bukan credit card. HAl ini bisa dilakukan online (www.cvs.com) ataupun lewat store. Kalau dilakukan di toko tersebut, maka sister langsung bisa menggunakannya saat itu juga.

NAnti, setiap sebelum transaksi, tunjukkan kartu CVSnya dahulu spy bisa di-scan oleh kasir. Semua promosi hanya bisa dilakukan kalau nomor kartu sudah dikenali oleh mesin kasir.

PROMOSI DI CVS.
================

Setiap minggu, di CVS, ada bbrp item yang dipromosikan shg barang tsb menjadi gratis atau hampir gratis setelah sister mendapat ECB (extra care bucks). Misalnya, colgate  yg diiklankan dengan harga $2.5 dengan ECB $2.5 itu artinya: sister akan mendapat kupon $2.5 di receipt sister setelah sebelumnya membeli  colgate dan  bayar pakai cash (out of pocket) sebanyak $2.5.  JAdinya colgate tersebut bisa dianggap FREE.

Kalau sister ke CVS lagi, maka coupon ECB ini bisa digunakan utk pembelian selanjutnya, spt cash saja.

Promosi mingguan bisa dilihat di websitenya CVS ataupun weekly flier yg bisa didapat di toko atau junk mail yang dikirim ke rumah. Promosi mingguan dimulai pada hari minggu dan berakhir pada sabtu malam.

Selain promosi mingguan, ada juga promosi bulanan yang bisa dilihat di booklet kecil di CVS store. Kadang2 promosi bulanan dimasukkan juga ke weekly flier.

Kmd, dengan adanya kartu CVS, maka komputer di CVS akan ‘menghitung’ berapa out of pocket yang sister gunakan utk berbelanja, dan from time to time akan memberi sister rewards dengan extra kupon2 ataupun ECB di bawah receipt.

YANG PERLU DIPERHATIKAN:

1. Coupon ECB ini ada expire datenya (berlaku sebulan saja) jd hati2 jangan sampai coupon ECB-nya expire.

2. COupon ini tidak bisa digunakan utk membeli:
-prescription dan co-pay.
-stamp
-gift card.
- baca fine print-nya utk daftar lengkapnya.

3. Dalam setiap promosi, ada limitnya. Jd sister gak bisa mborong 10 colgate kalau limitnya 5 per-card. Kecuali tentu saja kalau di satu keluarga ada dua pemegang card yang berbeda.

BAGAIMANA MEMAKSIMALKAN SHOPPING DI CVS
=======================================

1. Usahakan transaksi selanjutnya adalah transaksi yang menghasilkan ECB dan gunakan kupon ECB yang dipunyai utk berbelanja di transaksi selanjutnya. Kalau sister punya cukup byk ECB, maka setelah transaksi pertama atau kedua, sister mungkin tidak perlu mengeluarkan uang utk membeli barang2 selanjutnya. Gunakan saja kupon ECB yang lalu. Jd in essence, ECB ini di roll over terus menerus.

Contoh: saya beli barang A yang FREE setelah mendpt ECB $5. NExt transaction, saya beli barang B yang FREE setelah ECB $5. Di transaksi pada saat membeli barang B, saya gunakan ECB yg didapat waktu beli barang A. Jdnya pada saat beli barang B, saya tidak mengeluarkan uang.

2.KOmbinasikan ’sale’ dengan manufacturer coupon utk membeli barang2 yang tdk FREE stlh ECB, sehingga barang2 tersebut menjadi FREE or better, sister mendpt ‘extra’ overage.

Misalnya:
- Barang A harganya $3. ECB-nya $3 dollar. Jadi barang A itu FREE. Ttp kalau sister punya manufacturer coupon (dari Sunday paper atau junk mail) seharga $1, misalnya, mk sister bayar $2 ttp mendpt ECB $3. Artinya, dg membeli barang ini, tidak hanya mendpt barang FREE, ttp juga mendpt ‘extra’ uang dlm bentuk ECB.

- Barang B harganya $3, ttp ECB-nya $2 dollar. Dengan menggunakan manufacturer coupon $1, maka sister bisa mendpt barang ini FREE.

3. Ada lagi step yang lebih complicated, yaitu menggunakan tumpukan coupon dan promosi PLUS ECB utk mendptkan lebih banyak variasi barang.
Macam2 kupon:

1. MAnufacturer coupon, didapat dari manufacturer. Biasanya dapat dari Sunday paper, junk mail (REd Plum di daerah saya), ataupun dari print out di websitenya manufacturer.

2. CVS coupon. Secara rutin CVS mempunyai kupon yang bisa diprint dari website mereka. Kadang2 kupon ini kupon general, kadang2 kupon ini hanya utk produk tertentu.
Kupon general misalnya : $4 off kalau beli $20 ($4/$20) dst.
Selain itu, kadang2 sister mendpt print out kupon semacam ini di receipt sister. Biasanya adalah $5 off kalau beli $25. Atau yang kerap juga: $2 off kalau beli $10 produk bermerek CVS.
NOTE: utk mendptkan instant kupon: $4 off/$20, sign up newsletternya CVS for deals.

Kupon2 ini bisa dikombinasikan dengan kupon ECB.

Cara memberikan kupon ke kasir stlh barang2 discan (di bbrp CVS, ‘order’ matters) :
1. Berikan CVS coupon ($4/20) atau whatever. Gunakan 1 coupon saja. Ada banyak kok macemnya dari $3/15 sampai $15/$75. Jd pilih sister yg sesuai dg total belanjaan sister, y.i. total sebelum kupon2 digunakan.

2. Berikan manufacturer coupon.

3. Berikan ECB coupon.

Kalau ECB-nya kebanyakan, mk mau nggak mau sister mesti beli barang ekstra spy ECBnya enggkak hilang begitu saja.

Tips Bagi Pemula:
===================

1. Start small dan sederhana.

2. Beli barang2 keperluan sister dahulu. Kalau sudah mahir, sister bisa beli barang2 ekstra utk dijual di garage sale, ataupun utk disumbangkan.

3. Beli barang2 utk keperluan 3-6 bulan kedepan. Always think ahead, jangan beli pas mepet2 perlu barang. Dengan begini, mk sister bisa mendpt barang2 spt diaper, pembalut, obat2an dst dengan FREE atau nyaris FREE pada saat ada promosi. Lumayan kan.

4. Jangan cepat menyerah, pelajari sistem ini selama 3 bulan. Nggak susah kok.
